I'm not really talented in the baking department, especially when it comes to doughs, but the two bite meat pies looked so fun to make that I couldn't resist just trying once to make them. By some kind of miracle the things actually turned out. Some didn't stay sealed, but oh my, they were tasty! The dirty rice looks really awful (especially in my picture), but wow it is so good!

Homer Dean Benson Our Hero, Our Friend Homer Dean Benson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully at his home in Provo, UT surrounded by his loving family on July 31, 2008.He was born in Manila, Daggett Co., UT on June 7, 1915 to George Milton and Dora Louisa Wall Benson. Married his sweetheart of 72 years, Blanche Alta Severson, July 14, 1936 in Union, UT. From a sheepherder's camp, to Bingham coal mines, to Simm's Ranch, to production at Geneva Steel, he has enjoyed many adventures in life. He has been blessed with four children, who survive him, Dean (Pat) Benson, Kathleen (Steve) Nielsen, Arda (Scott) Fjelstrom, and Nyra (Jamie) Ward. He dearly loves his twenty two grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, who brought him great joy. Gardening, dancing, bowling, visiting, music, sports, and family have filled his life with enjoyment. This noble man has taught honorable values through his example and how he has chosen to live his life. Unselfish service, sacrifice, an honest work ethic, sound financial management, common sense wisdom, physical fitness and endurance define his character. He had a love of God and country, beautifying his surroundings and taking care of others. He has left a legacy of love of family and especially a love for his dear sweetheart, Blanche, who survives him. Preceded in death by his parents, dearly loved grandparents, Peter Gurr and Frances Maude Wall, beloved brothers, Reed, Clay, cherished sisters, Helen, Gladys, and Jackee. He is survived by his dear brother and friend, Karl. A Celebration of his life will honor him on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 12:00 noon at the Cherry Hill 5th Ward, 135 East 2000 South, Orem, UT. Friends may call at the ward xhapel on Monday evening 6-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Interment East Lawn Memorial Hills, Provo, UT.
