Hearts and Hair

So as I was doing my annual blog stalking I ran across this cute blog with fun little heart hair do's.
I gave it a try with little Ms. Livie, and thought they turned out really cute, although I did mine slightly different. The only problem I had was chasing her around the house trying to get her to hold still so I could get a picture!

I took this picture last night of my newest hair color. I decided I wanted to go darker and do some red highlights. As you can see my hair did not come out any darker and the highlights did not work! At least I got a cute picture out of the whole deal!

The Before and After's

Just like I promised.

The Before
(or otherwise known as the Bunion)
Right about now I could use some nifty photography software and slap on an arrow pointing to the bump on the side of Derik's big toe.

The Right After
(otherwise known as an Austin Bunionectomy)

Two Weeks After
(also known as the painful recovery)

As of now Derik is back at work and hopping around in a boot. The bunion is gone and Derik has had little pain for the most part. He is however concerned about his limited range of movement and motion, so we might be going to see a physical therapist. In about two more weeks he gets to graduate to a "big shoe". About four weeks after that, he gets to try to the do the things he once loved, like running again.

The Following Event Took Place On January 14th 2009, Somewhere Around Bedtime

And went something like this....
"Alivia would you please go to the bathroom and brush your teeth"?
Then there was the pitter patter of little feet running to the bathroom.
After a minute or two of silence I go in to the bathroom to find Alivia doing exactly what I had asked, and a little more!
Not only was she being super obedient,
but she made herself "pretty" with her moms mascara as well.

"Alivia what's that on your face"?

"Do you mean this Mom"?

"Don't you think it looks pretty!"

"I think it looks pretty!"

It's just too bad I don't have my moms old picture albums because I'm quite sure I'd find a 26 year old photo of a little girl with her mom's mascara all over her face too! And then I'd post it and let you see that it's true... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

Thanks Grandma Connie

When Derik and I worked at Kohler's Grocery we meet a dear friend named Connie. Connie (and her family) has been so kind to our little family that nothing but the title Grandma would do her justice.
She gave Alivia and Dylan these cute pajamas!
The kids were so excited to take a bath and put these warm and soft pajamas on.
They were also more than excited to pose for some pictures.

I have said it before, many times, but I love this girls curls!

Grandma Connie, thank you so much for loving us, and always being so generous and kind!
We love you!

He Broke Another Family Trend and I'm Most Grateful

For those of you who don't know Derik went in for surgery on Wednesday to have a bunion removed. As of now he's under strict rules not to remove his bandaging, so it might be a week or two before I can get some before and after pictures up.
It was a rather interesting experience to be with Derik as he came out of anesthesia. Derik isn't much of a sit around and relax kind of guy, so I found it rather funny that even when he's drugged he resists resting! He would try to sit up and open his eyes, over and over, despite my constant reminders to relax and get his rest. When he first came to, he said "Hey I didn't die on the operating table and go see my mom, that's good!" I was rather a taken back and I said, "What!?!" He then said, "My mom died in a podiatrist (Foot Doctor) office at the age of 32, I guess I broke that family trend too." I was so surprised and overwhelmed by his statement that I couldn't help but cry. I have rarely heard Derik speak of his mother, and not once did he ever tell me that his mother actually died in a podiatrist office (she suffered a heart attack there, it was just weird coincidence that she was at a podiatrist). Part of me was touched by the tenderness of the thought of Derik seeing his mom again, and the love that's still there but is never spoken about, but mostly I felt like a jerk for not even knowing my husband thought he might die during his operation. I probably didn't help matters either when I teased Derik about making sure all his hospital paper work was filled out right, so if he died, I could sue the hospital (I really must have a deranged sense of humor).
After drifting in and out of reality, for a while Derik finally won his battle to stay awake and began peppering me with questions. I would barely be finishing the answer to his question, when he'd start asking me the same thing again. He even noticed that I had ventured to the snack bar and got myself a yogurt with berries for breakfast (which happened to be free, compliments of the hospital) and asked, "How much did you pay for that?" Even when he's out of his mind he's still worried about what I pay for things, somethings are just ingrained in people I guess.
Once he got a little more sane, I got to bring him home.
We are now currently just trying to survive being home together 24/7. Derik has constantly informed me of his boredom and I am amazed at just how much he hates being forced to take a time out from work and life. I for one, would love the opportunity to sit around and be helpless for a while, but Derik and I are never usually on the same page. One mans pain is another mans pleasure, takes on new meaning to me now.

Stay tuned for some before and after pictures.
If you're really are curious and you have a strong stomach, look up "Austin Bunionectomy" on Youtube and watch the procedure. It looks like an extremely painful procedure.

Ward Family Fun

My sister Heidi came up to Utah for New Years
and was nice enough to share her photo's of our time together, with me.

I've been having fun crocheting hats lately,
So Heidi snapped this picture of Cozy and me in our hats.

This is a candid shot Heidi took while on our Trax train ride up to Temple Square.
I guess picking your nose must run in the family.

This might actually be the only photo ever
of all four of the "Ward" girls together and smiling!

Me and Alivia

Cozy and me, do we look like sisters?

After Temple Square Dylan had the chance to hang out and have a cousin sleep over with Sydney, these two are like peas in a pod!

We had planned on spending a night out bowling together, but things didn't work out. We did however get to go visit our Grandma Benson

Heidi captured this "Oh So Cute" picture of Alivia with her new Nikon camera

Afterwards we eat pizza and played cards at Grandma Wards. Here's a shot of Grandma hangin out with all her grandkids.
As always, time with Heidi's family seemed too short! We cannot wait until we get to see you guys again. Heidi, thanks for sharing your pictures so I could post them, they turned out awesome!
