December 2014

I finally got Isaac in to see someone about his speech.  I've noticed some change in his behavior lately and I think people not being able to understand him is frustrating him and making him act shy (he most definitely isn't shy).  He starts school in August and I wanted him to go there knowing he could communicate and be understood.  He is now scheduled to go to school once a week for an hour of pretty intense speech therapy.  I'm excited he's getting help!
Our Young Women were in charge of the Christmas Party this year for our Ward.  The YW presidency did a Charlie Brown theme, it was fun and spiritual.  I helped with a few of the decorations.  We have some seriously talented women in that organization and everything turned out spectacularly.
This is the Snoopy House and Booth I made from cardboard.

Alivia finally got to go to Activity Days.  She's been looking forward to going since my time as an Activity Days Leader a few years ago.

I finally finished my glass block nativity.  Only took my two years!

I made my nephew Brax this Ninja Turtle hat.

I only got just three lemons off my tree this year.  But look how beautiful these two are!

I got to go Ice Skating with our youth this year.  It made me feel all happy inside to be back in an ice skating rink.  I think it was one of my favorite youth activities, back in the day.  I realized about 10 minutes into it that I am no longer that youthful, my feet burned and hurt so bad!  My favorite part was when the machine in the ceiling made it snow.  I don't miss living with snow at all but It was fun to have it flying in the air for about 5 minutes!

We spent Christmas eve with our Bishop and his family in their home.  We had good food and a great time.  I was really grateful for the invite, there's something really lonely about not being around our old friends and family during the Christmas Holidays.  The kids all had a great time acting out the night of our dear Saviors birth.

We made it home in time to Google Chat with my family and read the "Shimmy" story.  We let the kids open their Christmas Eve pajamas and then sent them off to bed.  The Mr and I turned on Lampoon's Christmas and finished wrapping up the last of Christmas gifts.

Christmas Day started out a little rough, when Derik couldn't get our camcorder to work.  Honestly folks we had one grumpy and distraught dad on our hands.  The kids all had a great Christmas despite it all.  They all said Santa is the BEST!

I decided that this year we would draw names for our family gift exchange, but I wanted the gifts to be homemade.  It didn't go quite like I hoped it would, but it's definitely something I would like to try again next year.  Alivia made me a paper tool belt, it was awesome!  I gave Dylan an IOU for a wood shelf he's been begging me to build him, Dylan made Isaac a cardboard airplane to play in, I helped Abrielle, Derik and Isaac out by crocheting hats for the girls they each got.  I also gave Derik a IOU for a running plaque I want to build him.
Here's what Alivia's hat turned out like.

Derik bought me a scroll saw and some pneumatic nail guns and staplers.  I AM SO LUCKY!  I have such a giving and supportive husband.  I absolutely love working with wood.

I broke down and colored my hair again.  I did a violet color and I'm really liking it. My cell phone front camera takes really blurry pictures I apologize.

Abrielle started to say her ear hurt so New Years Eve morning we got her into the Dr and found that she indeed had an inner ear infection.  Other than crying a few times the night before she was happy as a lark, I almost dismissed her telling me her ear hurt, because she was acting totally normal.

We had our friends the Oehring's from our ward over for a Chinese dinner New Years Eve.   They brought fireworks for afterwards.  It was really cold but the kids had a great time watching the fireworks!  My children really wanted to stay up til midnight, but I was way too tired so I made everyone go to bed.
Our neighbors really went all out this year with ringing in the New Years.  The fireworks were so loud and intense at midnight that it sent Abrielle into hysterics.  When I went up to get her she was screaming and shaking like a leaf, poor thing.  New Years in never dull around here I tell you!

Here's to 2015 may it be a great year!

November 2014

The Mr and I and some friends The Wrights (from our Ward) spent the evening at the drive-in.  It was pretty cold, but lots of fun.  They have a little play area for the kids to run around until the movie starts, which makes it really nice.  We saw Big Hero Six and Alexander and the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.  Both movies ended up being fairly enjoyable.  I'm glad there's a drive-in to go to down here,  it's about the only fun affordable thing I've found to do as a family down here.

Our beautiful Miss Alivia turned 8!
She requested to have her ears pierced as her birthday gift, so the Mr and I obliged.
We kept her birthday pretty low key since we figured we'd do the partying when my sister and mom came down for Alivia's baptism.  She did get her favorite dinner (Burrito Casserole) and cake and ice cream though.

My sweet and talented friend Jessica Steveson offered to take some picture of Alivia for her baptism invitations.  They turned out just beautiful!  I was so grateful she shared her talents and gave us such a wonderful act of service.

I spent an enormous amount of time trying to get my house in order for guests.  I painted rooms and refinished furniture.  I swore I'd never make our font room into a dining room because it's just silly to me to have two separate dining spaces in one house.  That my friends is why you never say never. The table I built for our kitchen was just too big for the space, and I got tired of bumping into walls and squishing guests into the itty bitty space we do have in there.  So I bit my tongue and my pride and decided to go ahead and make our front room a dining room.  I refinished the old oval oak table and brought it back inside into the Kitchen (it was on our back patio) and shifted the dining table and chairs I built into the newly designated dining room.  The problem I had was the chairs that came with the old oak table all rotted and fell apart when they were exposed to the outside, so I needed new chairs.  I was more than excited when the Mr. called me and said a neighbor of ours was throwing out an old dining table and chairs.  I ran/drove as fast as I could and threw those babies into my car.  Free is always AWESOME!
I sanded and repainted them all white. Now I have three dining tables, one for the kitchen, one for the dining room and one for the back patio for me to wood work on.  Here's a before and after of our old oak table and the chairs I sort of dumspter dived for and refinished.

Aunt Cozette and Braxton flew out to Texas to visit us for 10 days!

I was beside myself for joy in being able to spend some time with my sister and Braxton and my kids loved, loved, loved having them to play and tease and laugh with.  Cousin sleepovers are the best!

We visited Galveston one day, gotta love still being able to play in the ocean in your undies in mid November.

We didn't stay long since we had to be back to feed the missionaries, but we did get to enjoy a ride on the ferry as well.  I always love taking that silly little ferry ride.
We put Aunt Cozy to work beautifying everyone since we have no access to a trusted hairstylist down here (and lash extentionist to boot)! Livie and I went for short cuts.  Nothing like wanting to get rid of all that  sweaty hair plastered to your neck nine months of the year.

I had my sister do an asymmetrical cut on me.  It's probably one of my favorite haircuts ever!  Alivia pulled me aside afterwards and kindly pointed out that Aunt Cozette had cut one side of my head much shorter than the other.  Gave us a good laugh.
She was even nice enough to take a few hours of her time and give me this beautiful set of lash extensions!
She gave my boys cuts too, but for some reason I can't find any photos.
Thanks Cozy for being our beautician, you are the best!

My mom flew in for a few days to visit us and be there for Alivia's baptism.  Having family in town was so
much fun.  Time just flew!

I had another funny little "Mormon" moment at my local grocery store.  I was chit chatting with my checker and telling him my mom was here visiting from Utah, I told him Utah will always be home to me.  He got a real funny look on his face and asked me If I was a  "uh uh uh uh"... he obviously needed a little help spitting it out, so I helped him out a little by exclaiming that "Yes indeed I was a Mormon".  He threw his hands in the air rather dramatically and insisted that he wasn't judging me!  Made me laugh so hard.  Most of the time it's just heart breaking to see how misinformed people are about my faith, but this time around I couldn't help but laugh that he was so worried that I thought he was judging me for being one.

Some of my relatives on my dad's side live here in Texas.  They are all about three and a half hours out so we don't see each other much, but Cozette helped change that for me by inviting them to come down and hang with us for the day.   It was a lot of fun visiting with them.
We hit the Blue Bell Ice cream Factory too.  Best Ice Cream Ever!

Alivia's baptism day finally arrived.  Aunt Cozette and Grandma Ward did a beautiful job with their talks! Alivia had so many friends and family there to support and love her.  My Uncle Bob and Aunt Wanda drove in from Del Rio, Grandma and Cozy flew in from Utah, we had friends drive an hour each way to be there!
What a lucky girl to be surrounded by such great support. Alivia was glowing the whole time.  I pray she will strive to keep her baptismal promises and to listen to the Holy Ghost everyday and cherish the gift she was given.  I know the gift of having Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and The holy ghost as part of my life is the best thing I have!  The Gospel gives me hope in my darkest hours and makes everything good in my life better!

After Alivia's baptism Cozette and I drove to the Houston Temple to see if we could do some work together.  We decided on doing some sealings since we thought it would be short and sweet and we could get back home to everyone.  We were terribly mistaken.  Two and a half hours later we finished up.  I know our intent was to be there for just a short while but I really did enjoy just being there with my sister!

We finished up the evening by going to dinner at Lupe's (one of our favorite Tex-Mex places down here).  Ironically enough Mexican food is one of Alivia's favorites, but she refused to order anything but Mac-N-Cheese.  We kept trying to convince her of the errors of her way but she was insistent she'd hate everything there.  This is the comment card she left after we had finished dinner and she finally decided to stop being stubborn and admit the Mexican food we ordered was far better than her mac-N-Cheese!

*Mac-N-Cheese is for sissies!

And just like that it was time for everyone to pack up and go back home.  Saying goodbye just stinks!  I really really hate being so far away from my family!  My heart was so full of gratitude for the efforts everyone made to be down here and spend time with us.  I wish I could have been with my entire family and I wish we could have had less errands to run and more time for adventures, even still I'm so glad we had this time together to make memories.

Thanksgiving was a quiet one for the Giovannoni family this year.  We stayed at home by ourselves.  I cooked the whole traditional thanksgiving dinner from scratch, with a little help from my kids.  This year I put Alivia in charge of the rolls, Dylan was the stuffing man, and Isaac ..Whoops I can't remember what I put Isaac in charge of, and Derik made the Cranberry drink.

I even attempted pie!  I'm not sure what it is with me and desserts, they just never turn out!  The pie filling was AWESOME but the crust was just terrible!  Always something with me...

I'm pretty sure I lost our Annual Giovannoni Thanksgiving thanks list too.  How sad, I guess there is always next year right?

August, Sepember, and October

August:
The kids were overjoyed to be asked to dog sit for our friends for a few weeks.  I thought it would be fun to have a four legged friend for a while too.  It really was a great experience.  Sydney was patient with the kids, well mannered, low maintenance and provided a lot of fun for my kids.  We were all really sad when our three weeks with her were up!

I was called to serve in our Wards Young Women's as a Laurel Advisor.  I have never been more surprised and excited about a calling in my whole life.  The Mr and I already team taught the youth for second hour so I felt like I already had a great relationship with my girls.  The only stinky part was they released me from team teaching second hour with Derik.

I took our kids and Dylan's friend Matthew on a picnic to a local park as one last hoorah before school started up again.  I am fond of this park because it's located on a road named Pleasant Grove.

September:

We spend almost every Saturday at Costco.  The kids love the free samples and usually find themselves having a great time.

Dylan started practicing his tent setting up skills for his up coming Boy Scout campout.

Since I never buy school pictures I snapped these pictures of Alivia all done up for picture day.

I repainted my front room.  While I liked the green I decided on converting the front room to a dining room and I had my heart set on gray.  So after buying another dozen samples of gray, I settled on the paint color Amazing Gray.  I'll post pictures of the room a little later.

My prayers were finally answered!.  This beauty is everything I was looking for at the right price. I'm am so thrilled to have a car once again.  I love my new van!

First time taking it out to the store and this is what I came out to find.  Somebody side swiped me.  no note of apology...Grrr makes me mad to see it scratched up.

October:

Jack made his yearly appearance.  Someday I'll get back to making him a companion or two.

The Mr. stayed home with the two young ones and let me take our oldest two to a late showing of Meet the Mormons. I am most grateful for my faith and the blessings and peace it brings into my life, It was an inspiring movie, and I'm glad we were able to see it.

While the weather is cool and I only have two kids at home I started a new family rule.  No TV at all Monday through Thursday.  I just got so tired of the influence TV was having on Isaac and fighting my other kids to do their chores and homework after school.  While I realize this isn't always going to work, it's been one of the best thing I've ever done.  There is no TV distraction after school.  The kids actually have to entertain themselves and I see them playing outside more and being creative.  Isaac actual picks up books and looks through them now instead of staring at a screen.  There have been days where I was desperate to get things done and I've allowed Isaac to watch TV or have an hour on educational games on the tablet, but those days have been very very few.  The weather has been so pleasant that outside playtime has been possible and we haven't missed TV at all.

Dylan's scout campout date finally arrived.  He was so excited to go.  He had a great time and finally got to have a sleep over with his friends.

I built this wooden clock from scraps in our backyard.

The Mr celebrated his 35th birthday!
Someday he'll get something as grand as he deserves, for now I hope he continues to be patient with us.  He did get a home cooked version of one of his favorite seafood dish from me and a bunch or his favorite treats from his children.

Halloween was a little dismal this year  We recycled costumes, Dylan spent the night at his friend and Alivia trick or treated with some neighbors.  Nobody wanted to hold still long enough for pictures, it was also pitch black by the time I pulled the camera out, but the weather was perfect!  .  I made homemade pizza, and ran the two youngest up and down the street while Derik made homemade rootbeer.
